The organisation of EP work on the EaP region, overview of issues : internal briefing

Summary
The EU's policy in relation to the region covered by the Eastern Partnership (Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) is multifaceted and now in a state of major change. There will be new basic agreements for the bilateral relations, new bilateral action plans and new frameworks for EU assistance until 2013. Recently created multilateral EU-Eastern Neighbourhood bodies are starting to function and at the same time, the Commission is preparing a new set of its annual reports on the implementation of the existing action plans. This note aims to raise awareness of ongoing processes in relation to the EaP region and to facilitate decisions on what role the EP should play. Issues concerning the planned Euro-Neighbourhood East Parliamentary Assembly are also touched upon
